The heartfelt exchange between Tim Walz and his teenage son, Gus, has sparked a wave of praise and support, but it has at the same time provoked ugly incidents of bullying online.
Gus Walz, who has Chasten Buttigieg a nonverbal learning disability, along with anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), watched excitedly from the front row of Chicagoâs United Center and sobbed openly on Wednesday night as his father, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, gave his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

recounting the challenging fertility journey he and his wife, Gwen, went through to have their daughter, Hope.
Walz followed up by expressing his love for his family from the stage, stating, "Hope, Gus, and Gwen, you are my entire world. And I love you."
Gus Walz jumped up from his seat, ADHD with teardrops running down his cheeks, pointed his finger and exclaimed, âI love you, Dad.â
The heartwarming moment between father and son, captured live by TV cameras, quickly went viral and was mostly received adoringly on the internet and in the media.
Fox News posted a video Parent-child Relationship of the viral moment on its TikTok page, stating "Gus Walz steals the spotlight during dad's acceptance speech." The comments were overwhelmingly positive.
âI hope to inspire my kids so much that when they see me give a speech about the dreams and passion I have for my country, they are Fox News moved to tears like Gus Walz did,â wrote Chasten Buttigieg, husband of Transportation Secretary on X.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who addressed the audience before Walz on Wednesday night, commended the bond between Walz and his children.

But the display of affection triggered a wave of snarky and cruel comments from online trolls, many of them supporters of MAGA, of former president Donald Trump, who is running against Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Online Bullying Harris and Walz in November.
Conservative columnist and provocateur Ann Coulter ridiculed the teenagerâs tears. âTalk about weird, â she posted on X. The message has since been deleted.
Mike Crispi, a Trump backer and content creator from New Jersey, mocked Walzâs âstupid crying sonâ on X and added, âCongratulations Mike Crispi on raising your kid to be a blubbering beta male. Congrats.â
Alec Lace, a Trump follower who runs a show about fatherhood, took his own swipe at the teenager: âGive that kid a tampon already,â he said, in an apparent reference to a Minnesota state law that Trolls On Social Media Walz signed as governor requiring schools to provide free menstrual products to students.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel mentioned that Jay Weber, a conservative Milwaukee radio host, posted a message on X criticizing the Walz family, now removed.
